Bucket broke during winterization

We just lined our freezer with panda plastic lol. Oops I mean pond liner

what i dont understand is why the bucket broke in the first place. It is supposed to handle temp as low as like -150c if i remember correctly. And it was only at -80c. Im guessing there was a flaw in the bucket itself as it was brand new. Ive winterized at least 5 buckets with no problem. Then this one decided not to hold up. Either way im not going through that clean up ever again so stainless it is.

Food grade HDPE buckets should be good down to -76c

It definitely could have been a defect in the bucket.

I’ve winterized 10’s of thousands of kilos of crude/disty in these types of drums without incident…

Restaurant supply store online is where I got all my SS stock pots.

So don’t splash terp-laden crude, on the gasket/o-ring, eh? Either way, those seem cool!

With crude it’s negligible, but when you’re storing straight up terpenes collected from cold traps during vacuum oven decarb it gets fucked pretty quick.

I’ve always used 5 gallon carboys to winterize in. Never had one break or crack
