Anyone use sediment filters with these kind of housing for filtering ethanol? I’ve seen 3 stage set ups going from 50 - 10 - 1 micron. Anybody use something like this:
Just wondering if the gaskets and housing are ethanol compatible.

Propylene housing Buna n o’ring it should be fine but you need to find the makeup of the insert you will be using
The plastic is polypropylene and compatible with our use but you can’t ground plastic and the discharge point can build up static, especially if you give from plastic to metal. They sell the same housings in stainless steel
Also the big blues are kinda leaky and have a large amount if hold up in the filters unless you run them upside down, which creates other problems in changing the filter.
Yup i’ve used these before. They are screw on caps, and if you get oil in the threads getting them back open is extremely difficult. Highly recommend stainless, and especially ones that seal with clamps as opposed to threads.
cannabinoid based thread-locker!
not just for sealing jars
when diluted with EtOH it’s a penetrating sealant too…
Yeah it’s bad. With the steel ones you can at least heat gun it carefully. With these plastic ones you’re pretty much f’d. Also drilling the bolts in to mount them can split the cap. All in all not a very robust piece of equipment.
I like the closures on these.
I’ve also used ones that used the same concept, but required a wrench.
~$100 rated 250PSI
I’ve blown the blue ones up trying to filter WVO at 4C ambient (6am New Years day). I wouldn’t want to make that sort of mess inside. Especially not with flammable solvent.
I have been trying to order some of these Pall housings for a minute but they aren’t cheap
yep, it’s there or the pharmaceutical industry if we’re gonna do this right…
If they get real cold they’ll crack for sure
