Beer Distillation in a Cryo Freezer?

Anybody want to brew an Imperial IPA and freeze distill it in a cryo freezer? Sam Adams Utopia is 28% with distillers yeast. This guy got 67% alcohol. If it’s tasty? That’s debatable.

just like decarbing isolate doesn’t make distillate, freezing the water out of one’s beer is not “distilling”.

Yeah, there are lots of folks who refer to it as distillation…they’re wrong.

if you don’t go through two phase changes (liquid => gas, then gas => liquid), then you have not distilled. period.

Ethanol Freeze Protected Water Solutions

does suggest that you’ve got the right temperatures in mind.

remember the heads and tails one removes from their moonshine?

those are NOT removed by fractional freezing… (which predominantly removes the water).

So there will be more methanol, aldehydes, ethyl acetate and fusel oils in a high proof spirit made without distillation. which is presumably why apple jack hangovers are such a bitch, and why Alabama Boss reacted to his $100 snake venom the way he did.

It is more analogous to crystallization… but in “reverse”.
