Wow, that’s really random. You’d think they were friends doing the same grow from the title but no, apparently two completely unrelated people getting guano from two different sources just happened to both die in Rochester.
I can see getting sick from scraping it up yourself, but becoming ill from a purchased product is awful. I would have thought that the product would have been heat sterilized before being sold, but obviously not.
Holy sh… That’s crazy. I think it’s about 13 years ago I was a partner in a grow and we use bat guano. It was a pretty big couple of greenhouses and reading this I get chills thinking that this could have hurt many people.
Guanos also tend to be high in heavy metals. I would seek alternate fertilizer sources.
Bat Guano’s been commonly used for decades. It’s crazy this is the first time this happened apparently. And in the same place. So weird. Not saying it’s a made up story, I believe them, but it’s one hell of a coincidence!
yeah but usually from a bag bought at a store, not, “with guano he’d found in his attic following a “heavy” bat infestation.” Like the one dude, thats just asking for trouble!
Definitely a crazy coincidence!
What?
I thought we already knew about the histoplasmosis risks of landscapers and stuff. Same reason you’re not supposed to grow fungi on any guano amended soil. This is unfortunate and sad.
One was buying straight guano, they’re in New York. What are the chances it was perpetually wet improperly stored bags infecting a small unventilated workspace they frequented for mixing.
Other dude, just literally collecting the shit in his house. Yeah that’s just bad.
