Bad advice you should not follow by possibly the dumbest person posting on this furm at the moment........................ adviceExtremly important PSA: Pumps will explode badly if they absorb too much solvent, always use a cold trap or be prepared to die

protip if you need to clean: fill it with kerozene and turn it on for a few hours

I was hoping for pictures. Is everyone ok?

Was the pump UL listed and rated to work with flammable solvents?

I can remember an old tread recomending

Ethanol by either @Soxhlet or @breakingdabs206

you say kerosene and if you look at flashpoints it might not even be a bad substitute there are more factors other than flashpoint one has to take into considerations

Ethanol has a very high material compatability with seals

Kerosene is difficult to figure out it s material comparability since it s noumerous hydrocarbons mixed and somebcould be aggressive to your pump seals

in general using a solvent in a vacuum pump non atex is not a wise thing to do ( admitting I do it frequently )

If you insist on doing it cap the pump on inlet so as little as possible oxigen gets pulled into the pump while working with a solvent in

Be careful

Yeah I’m cool with using ethanol but no matter which solvent you use you should not do this-

First no hexane in the air fryer, now no kerosene in vacuum pumps. So many rules!

Quite a bit actually.

Around 2018-2019, seems like many users were parroting the idea. I’m curious if anyone posting back then would still consider this best practice.

Worth noting it was suggested back then to use a 50/50 mix of pump oil and kerosene and only mentioned running for 30 min intervals.

I certainly ruined a pump this way. Was running 20 microns before. 50-100 after

I tried it a few year back and saw no improvement whatsoever.

Reminds me of the hot diesel flush people do to cars

Inland ff-10 works pretty well, I just used that
