Are people still using activated alumina?

Yes I run the granular media (crx, Aa, ultra clear or something similar) under the dread column

Then I send it to a crc packed with fine clay (b80, w1, w2, t5 or something similar). Then it goes thru a 1um then a .2um filter into the collection pot

T5 is clay not silica. DE is silica

sounds like it could be time to clean your sintered disc

Yea these work great
I use de, ultraclear, b80, ultraclear layered to get great flow and amazing products

Whose the manufacture of the granular and ultra clear?
Haven’t kept up on all the new absorbandts have been working thru this pallet of b80

AA will catalytically decarb your acidic cannabinoids if used with warm or even room temp solvent

Nickel looks interesting too

Seems your profile is private, Id love to hear your blend tho. Right now im using CRX with a bit of bentonite and activated alumina

That is fuckin hilarious

Ultra clear is from ChemTek
Cry, crx is from media bros

Sorry for the noob question.
I typically do a warm AC scrub and a warm B80 scrub through celite. Its enough CRC for my needs.

I usually then make eth shatter in a vac chamber with my crude. I do have to decarb a bit at the end to put it in carts and that can sometimes lead to undesirable color change.

Any idea on what adding an AA decarbed product to my chamber would result in? Would it just come out super waxy?

Run a test batch and show us your results!

When we decarbed over alumina it was diluted in ethanol and passed through a long column packed with fine grind alumina- pulls water solubles and color really well along with decarbing- the heat generated by the adsorption of water is usually enough to heat the material enough to also decarb it slightly- we extracted with room temp etoh

so try this instead of your crc, its a lot cheaper! Fine grind alumina is found as sandblasting media, none of the companies in cannabis seem to offer fine alumina and i wonder if its so cheap and available that if people figured they could use it for color remediation that all those expensive clays would be tossed out the door.

Is this often sold as Aluminum oxide?
https://www.amazon.com/120-Aluminum-Oxide-Blasting-Abrasive/dp/B07VCP9P8X/ref=sr_1_9?crid=2IB5YWS7HWS5T&keywords=sand+blasting+media&qid=1642613159&sprefix=sandblasting+media%2Caps%2C83&sr=8-9

I’m also running this all in a glass buschner at a super small 1L scale if that makes a difference. I’m just a small fry and still learning. If this can replace all my CRC media that’s a game changer in price for sure though.

Yes, i am not sure if that counts as activated hut we used bulk aluminum oxide

You want a long column, adjust the flow rate to adjust your decarb %- the first fraction will not have decarbed as fast as the column needs to heat up a bit

Alternately you can use a jacketed column to control precise temp.

I think I see what you mean…lol so im assuming then with AA its not going to be as simple as just throwing some in the flask on the hotplate, warming it up and running it through the filter like I do with the other media. I think ive probably got some more reading to do before I start messing with this.

I think you could do that too but it will be much less controllable

I have a boatload of 2ā€ glass tubes for custom length sight glasses if you want me to put together a small Glass TC column i can do that pretty cheaply
