Have you ever wondered why they fall off so easily ….after the plant has died on the vine and dehydrated ….as in the Syrian method of making hash. The trichome heads would normally fall to the ground …perhaps poisoning the ground in some manner.

I have read various hypotheses in the literature. But nothing that could be called definitive, including protection from herbivore predation and short-wavelength UV damage.
