After seeing that little wire I doubt my guess is correct. Maybe an ionization chamber?
That whole tip has a little socket it fits into at the bottom of the vacuum chamber, you adjust the bellows down to make it seat in place.
That tiny hole in the tip of the cap looks like maybe an aperture for an electron gun.
This thing is an absolute pain in the ass to disassemble. The chamber I mean not the mystery component lol.
I had a postdoctoral gig where I had to make AFM probes and then image them with a SEM. We could only book SEM time after midnight. I was tired af and around 3am I finish an image and see this staring back at me. Lmao. I shit myself and thought I broke the fucking instrument for a second.
But I made an ‘electron mirror’ was looking at a reflection of the electron source and the inside of the SEM chamber.
Freaky part was you could zoom in on the image like an alternate reality. (See scale bars for comparison)
I know that I got ion getter pumps, that’s the reason I bought this system in the first place. This other piece is what I’m stumped on.
