I’ve said it before, the plant has 1 goal, to survive. It will move nutriens to the reproductive sites while allowing the energy sites to die off. This is why your flowers stay green while the rest of your plant yellows. By “flushing” which is an unnatural circumstance, the plant goes into survival mode. I have personally used the pyramid model in my approach to fertigation.

I’m googling, but I’m not coming up with anything for “plant pyramid fertigation”. Is there another key word I should be adding to read about this?

I adapted this from the way body builders/boxers train for competition. I used to train dogs in my 20’s and used this method then.

It’s not from feeding the plants exactly, the sugars come from the plant photosynthesizing. By restricting resources, sugar production will decrease but honestly I think it’s easier to handle the sugars in the extraction process than it is to get the plant to stop making them before harvest. If you wanted though you could experiment with methods by measuring the brix at harvest. I suspect a large dose of nitrate at the last minute would actually be the most effective method to get the plant to reduce sugar levels because the nitrate pathway is very dominant and if you can get the plant to build more cells, it will consume carbohydrates to do so. Just a theory though and you’d have to do it right at the last minute because you don’t want veggie bud

Plants exrete sugars thru the root system. This is what feeds the beneficial bacteria in the rhizosphere. It is the reason you add mollases to your feed water as you are trying to grow the colonies.

So I just read through that quickly, what I got out of it is running different types of water would probably be best. If I’m not incorrect, running regular well water pHed to 6.4 will help uptake the remaining nutrients, followed by My well water not PHed (8.0+ ?

Edit: and would it even matter not PHing to water the higher Ph water because the phosphoric acid will be neutralized and thmedium will slowly rise to the original pH of the water?

There’s so much “bro science” regarding flushing. I personally prefer ~100 ppm tap water, 50 ppm fulvic acid pH’d. Try it and see what works best for you.

no need to flush if you just use plain water the entire cycle! Microbes and organic compost, some bat shit, worm castings and it’s good to go.

not only that, they excrete different forms of sugars that trigger different types of microbes to break down the nutrients it’s looking for. It’s like the plant is going to a diner and asking for the meal they want and the microbes deliver. Plants grow themselves in the right environment.

speaking of lobster, I used some lobster compost this year and was blown away by the results. Canna really seems to like shell based amendments.

I’m cooking lobster again sometime this week or next. I may have to save and crush the shells and add to my ffof soil.

my opinion for the sake of what consumers buy: salt grown flower that looks straight insane, and fully organic for concentrates, and hash specifically.

Thats just because that’s what’s within my skill set. I’m working on learning more of how to maximize organics. Next year will be my debut year running fully organic inputs, but only on half of what I put out.

organics grow just as tight nugs as salts, I’m not quite getting your point here?

I agree. I think salt fertilizer has been dialed in for maximum yield for determinant tomatoes and cannabis since the early 2000’s because of the ubiquity of tissue testing. We are staring to dial organic inputs in much the same way like we did with salts because of a variety of ingredients and ability to process organic fertilizers.

I’ve seen perfectly cured, salt grown GG4 yield 3 a light (not mine) that smelled like almost nothing. I’ve seen organic GG4 that yielded ~2.3 a light that you could smell a mile away. My hypothesis is variations on exact nutrient ratios needed by the plant using organic inputs gives that wild taste and smell.

well put. I like to use the analogy of salt based feeding is like putting your plant on a nutrient IV. It has no say in what it consumes, and will only be as successful as the person controlling the drip. This can lead to great results if the grower has that strain dialed in, but can lead to very easy deficiencies that an inexperienced grower can be chasing the entire cycle.

Growing with microbes and solid organic amendments lets the plant decide where it goes to eat every day. It gets to order from the menu and communicate with the waitress, and eat as much or as little as they want to.

Both methods will get you the same results when done properly, however a VERY dialed in salt grow will generally out perform an organic grow as the plant is kinda force fed like a body builder.
