Hello- has anyone ever used nylon tanks or other materials in place of stainless steel for cold ethanol extraction. I’m looking at using stainless steel for most of it, but I was wondering if there is some kind of material that I could use in place of stainless steel for our “dunk/soak” tanks.
Otherwise we are looking at constructing/buyjng 8-10 stainless tanks that are around 50 gallons. Trying to trim our first years budget but I’m unfamiliar with any other options.
Your going to want to have jacketed vessels where ever possible. You could get away with having unjacketed vessels to do your soak, but just be sure to over spec your chillers by a significant margin to ensure your etoh is cold enough
Personally id put the money upfront and just get all jacketed vessels. Cutting corners in this industry potentially means losing out on alot of $$$ down the line. Plus if you get your system running beautifully itll pay for itself in a month or two.
HDPE buckets of barrels work good. There not jacketed, but you could insulate them well. I think that’s what Future was using at one point. Also the barrels have bungs on them so you can use slight positive pressure to move the liquid.
