I would use one, yes. You might not need a monster one, but you have volatiles and such that will kill your pump. It’s just protocol

How do I go about picking a pump? I saw some recommendations but would they be too large for this system ?

Check out the classified, you can find something cheaper probably.

You could probably use a diaphragm pump on that thing, a small rotary vein, 2 stage is better. No matter what though you’ll have to valve the vacuum through the system. To be honest though, you could find a 500ml BF, 500ml mantel, head, cow, and 250ml receiving flasks. You’ll want to scale up at some, and you can plan for that ahead by getting a decent pump now, etc. Everything is here, check the classifieds, check threads on distilling learn about the process as you put your shit together. That’s what I did, but it’s taken me a couple of months to pull it together
