What's the melting point of THC-A?

Thanks for posting this, very relevant info for those attempting to water extract THCa. I wonder if the much higher melting point of THCa-B could be used to fractionally crystallize pure isomers.

Looks like that work is by William Lanier, according to the patent.

Seems he is out of the cannabis game, and is CSO at Visionary Fiber- a pretty cool company. https://visionaryfiber.com/

Melting is a function of time. If you look at the data, melting onset @ 138C started to enter decarb range in about 100 seconds with 10 degree increase. Plus the media mass we used for DSC was about 5mg.

Long story short, you’ll never catch the melting point visually and you need very precise temperature control, stability, and uniformity. Alternatively, you can opt for lower temperatures, and stretch out those times making it easier to ballpark melting point visually.

Isn’t that one of the dudes listed in the long list of patent troll type patents in the cannabis industry?

Yes, I think we know him by another name(the will-billy?? Perhaps not). I do not really know what he was trying to get at with that “patent” to tell the truth. The ‘cracking” or what ever terminology he put forth. LOL…I’ve read a number of his patents, especially ones dealing with polar protic extractions solvents. He does state certain material facts that unless one truly investigated the “playing field” you would not have that knowledge. So he knows what he is doing, and the Patents are just a business strategy. We have to give him some credit along with Udoxi group.

It’s a common term for candy making
