Piecing together a small SPD - what do you think?

Hey everyone, I’m pricing out a small “home size” SPD for experimenting with hemp derived CBD distillation and maybe making some personal hash. I’ve read a ton on here about the topic and wanted to get some feedback on what I am considering. I am thinking of going with a 2L boiling flask. Is there a downside, besides increased cost, to going with a 5L instead? I have read that people recommend filling half of the BF volume with oil, but is it bad to go lower, i.e. run 1000 mL in a 5L flask? …
