I’m trying to decide on salts right now,
Should my acidic and basic solutions be made in a salt solution?
I.E. should I make my acid/base solution in a 3% w/w NaCl solution? Have you used MgCl2 as a substitute?
Edit: I ask, because I can understand that a brine will increase my polarity in the aqueous phase, but I worry that when I introduce citric acid, it’ll be immediately neutralized—additionally, I’ll be creating sodium citrate which is gonna act to emulsify make layers even further.
My solution was to use MgCl2 to make the brine and MgO to pH up. I’m trying to figure out what benefits I would gain from only adding the stoichometric requirement for these after adding my citric acid, so that I add 3 parts of Mg to every two parts citric acid (trimagnesium citrate)
Idk though, I was a chemical engineer that was good at fluid mechanics and thermodynamics—not so much chemistry.
