Routine inspections, preventative maintenance, additional safety measures . . . . All of those good lab practices should be considered whether youâre buying Huber, Julabo or the cheaper gear. The truth is, the cheaper gear needs way more attention. You have to build in the safety that isnât built in by the mfr.
Yup. But there isnât a cure-all method for these problems.

@spdking has made a great point as well on other forum posts. Itâs probably in your best interest to refrain from buying import equipment from a vendor that has no liability insurance. (doesnât apply to a US-based vendor, referring to overseas purchases)

The best customer service would be prevention. I donât know how offering a refund or anything would make up for almost getting killed. Maybe before they slap a label on it they should test it or do some kind of inspections before it goes out to the public. Just fyi importing non-UL rated equipment causes the seller to become liable. So the OP can sue USAlabs for any damages caused by the faulty equipment. If the buyer gets it straight from China they take the liability so unless they get it passed by a NRTL they cannot ever get insured for the lab or business as a whole.
Unfortunately there are only a few companies that manufacture compressors and they keep getting worse. This has been a common on ac units for a couple of years now.

Our lab purchased a 20L heating mantle from USA Lab a few months ago. We didnât get around to using it for a few weeks, and when we ran the suggested burn in process it smelled a bit stronger than usual for a new mantle. We usually run Glass-Col so we assumed it was just cheaper materials.
The first time we went to use it, it kept smelling worse and worse, and smoke started coming out before shutting itself off. I unplugged it and found that the fuse holder was too hot to touch. I popped the bottom off after it cooled to see where the smoke was coming from and one of the wires leading to the fuse holder had melted and fell off, and the wires going to the heating elements were charred and black. I thought fuses were supposed to pop before the wires literally melt? Well I checked the fuse and they used a 30 amp fuse that never blew. After reaching out to USA Lab, they said since we hadnât tested it sooner all they could do its ship us a new fuse holder and some âbetter wireâ and for us to solder it in ourselves. I tested continuity of the heating element and found it had also overheated and broken, so the mantle is ruined and they wouldnât offer any further help.
Scary stuff, this could have easily started a fire. Needless to say, we wonât be going cheap on anything that heats or cools in the future.
You guys and the other well known forum leaders are loosing credibility.

Like I said, what is important is a chain of custody, documentation on origin sourcing, vetting facilities directly, and ongoing QA assurances.
Customer service is key in any industry.
A resturant with shitty service doesnt see me returning, OR LEAVING A TIP.
If youâre so greedy you cant provide nearly instantaneous customer service for your products you make 100%-800% markup on sometimes, you have NO PLACE in this market.
This is no longer a gold rush, it is becoming a vertically integrated industry focused on efficiency and returns.
Clients want vendors that understand that and return good customer service.
