No seriously!

I once had a machine come in the door with five out of the eight 6” ferules on the columns visibly warped (failed above test).

It took me about a week to realize it wasn’t the folks I was training, it was the machine that was the problem.

Agreed, we told dude multiple times to leave it and let it off gas.

Maybe it’s just my phone but the video won’t work, seems like it didn’t load or somethin.

Weird. It will play on my android but not my ipad.

You could throw a second nut on each bolt, but leave it backed off the other nut just a little. Then if you hear that ominous tink during a run you know it’s time to tighten down that second nut.

At what visible inspection point do you guys consider a nut as reaching retirement age? I kinda just toss em once I see the outermost thread starting to flare out, but I’ve seen them come off a system as a spring and hexagonal cylinder.

I throw them out once I see any weird discoloration.

:octopus: I honestly plan to get a fuck load of nuts from @Killa12345, set a safety standard for myself and start changing them out every 6 runs.

That’s very often bro, are the brass nuts getting that busted after six runs? How hard are you tightening your brass nuts?

It not for my own pockets but these nuts and washers should have a regular maintenance schedule like your gaskets and valves.

Preventative maintenance is usually less expensive to a problem

No, I just want to feel like I’m doing something better for myself. I could make it every 12 runs.

Is where my mind was

Still beyond overkill.

I would think once a month is probably faster than needs to be. Let’s just say you replace 30x nuts and washers. It’s like $25

Thats about how often i swap no matter what and sooner if i even suspect a weak one. Thats also running all day everyday.

Let’s be honest.

2 years ago I believe @GroovyOctopusLabs was a noob and he has leveled up tremendously.

Couldn’t have done it without everyone here @future4200

When I did 2x runs per day we replaced all nuts quarterly.

It will depend on your torqueing and your volume, but pay attention to the little brass shards that get expelled and the squeaking that comes from the stripping of the threads.

It’s common with apple devices. I couldn’t play certain PDF’s or WEBM’s on my iPhone but computer and android works fine

Seriously, if I never knew about this forum I most likely would’ve done so many things wrong and thought that I was, “good enough,” to “get away with,” what I was doing in the beginning and it wasn’t a safe way to do closed loop.

Lots of health and safety hazards that were going on the beginning that got mitigated so fucking quick once I posted a thread on here asking about dewaxing and showed a set-up that I thought was “good enough,” then took all the advice, friendly criticism and knowledge that made it so that I had a usable cls that was safer than what I was using/planned on using.

The health hazards went down too due to the knowledge of distilling the solvent, filtering teks, cleaning teks, solvent mixing … I could go on but yeah …

I try to help others now that I’ve learned what I know and although I may still get stuff wrong every know and then when it comes to answering a question I always try to point people to someone who knows more than me or I double check my answers and correct myself if I’m wrong. I’ve been double checking answers lately though before I post something or I take educated guesses.

let’s be fair, some of us, me included for sure, have given rude as fuck criticism too.

You’ve taken all of it stride, and have focused on bettering your technique and safety culture. That’s not small, and you deserve a huge compliment for coming back after 6 assholes commented, and figuring out how to take their suggestions in properly and not get lost.

Cheers.

In my years being here, I’ve noticed a few things: It’s always the ones that stay and want to know more with the outcome of doing better than how they started. The friendly hazing is just who we are but none of are genuinely trying to be mean or assholes, the friendly hazing just kind of happens. You never have to be in the glg to be part of the forum but even if you’re still not part of the glg, it’s still a great idea to follow the model;

“We adopted the simple model established by SPR: pay it forward. Giving more and expecting less results in a strong community full of people who have been helped and ready to give back. A strong community full of positive relationships is a powerful foundation for growth.”
