Organic hydroponics

Hey @danielfp

I saw the other day on your IG that you successfully implemented an OMRI certified organic hydroponic regimen at an herb farm in NY.

The post shows 350,000 seedlings with not a single one damping off.

Congratulations!

I’m curious how “clean” the nutrient solution is and how it works with the dripper system. The closest I’ve gotten to organic growing is seeing someone using BioBizz and that stuff does NOT seem like it would play nice with a dripper system.

I’m sure some of the work is under NDA but is there anything you can possibly share with us here?

Thanks for your message and congratulations!

You can implement an OMRI based regime that is friendly for drippers. In this particular case this wasn’t a big concern (it is an NFT based system were small irrigation apertures are never encountered) but the solution is mainly clear, although with a brownish color. You would need to run it through a 200 mesh filter to ensure it would be dripper compatible though.

As you say a lot of this development is under NDA, but you can check some of my post on the subject for some ideas on how to achieve this (https://scienceinhydroponics.com/2021/04/how-to-make-an-organic-hydroponic-nutrient-solution.html).

This is an excellent paper on organic hydroponics (aka bioponic) that came out last year. Water | Free Full-Text | Bioponics as a Promising Approach to Sustainable Agriculture: A Review of the Main Methods for Producing Organic Nutrient Solution for Hydroponics
