No dry ice

what color? When I open blasted it was a nice golden clear. I did put the cans in a freezer.

you sound confused? you dont need that cold to recover. Have you done this? butane boils easy at 32 f. When you pull a vac thats a recovery pump so Itll boil off when you add heat to your collection. you need to add heat or it cools itself. The people with the super cold recovery are all about TIME. If you do all the jacketing and chilling and dry ice it saves TIME. Also im learning- you are on the level where adding heat is your issue. You have the recovery covered. Im opposite.

We pull vacuum on our system prior to blasting
At a acetone/dry ice slurry your system will be in vacuum once all is recovered
The question now is what’s the bp of butane under vacuum this temp will be the needed temp to be thee minimum temperature at wich this will work
The only diffrance is heat exchange that will modulate your recovery speed

The other question then is wich solvent would be best to use with the dry ice
If as example butane under vacuum it s bp is -50 there is no use in chilling it all to -78C
That means we are overchilling at -28C extraction of heat not needed
As for solvent each solvent has it s own heat transfer water is great glycol not so much etc etc maybe there is a bettter solvent /dry ice mixture for our purpose
But again @TheGratefulPhil might have answers

Ill leave this to the pros.

Get yourself a C02 tank setup for liquid withdraw, and run that into your jacket at metered rate. Be warry of putting too much into the jacket, it becoming dry ice, and imploding your column.

Yea sounds super chill

so if I mix calcium chloride with ice it will get super cold ?!? I have no idea how that science works but it sounds like a great alternative to dry ice !!! … ok this is the edit I googled it … what the hell are you talking about lol ? I guess ur saying it can stay liquid at those temperatures ? I don’t get how that relates tho

A post was merged into an existing topic: Is there any empirical evidence showing that D8 is dangerous? ROUND 3

You can only get as cold as your freezer or chilling source

Yea but Why would I not just use ethanol instead ? Found a -20 f freezer on amazon so I’m gonna pick it up and either just use to chill my ethanol before i poor it into sleeves or turn it into a flammable material freezer and put my solvent tank right in the freezer . I assume it won’t hold temp that long on the summer but in winter I’ll be fine and in summer I can probably just get a little bit of dry ice to throw in with the ethanol to keep it at temp

Most freezers aren’t spark proof. If you’ve got any kind of leak you’re likely going to have low boiling solvents in the air in the freezer, and you’re likely going to have a spark when it kicks on. So storing your hydrocarbon tanks in there isn’t a great idea. Ethanol or a chilling fluid is probably fine (get some antifreeze if it’s just for a jacket).

Yes it will get super cold yust make sure melted water gets to leave the mixture for it only works in the presence of salt and ice

He doesn’t care lol

Thanks . Some one made me aware Of this here . I know I would need a flammable material freezers least . my plan was alter the fridge into a flammable material freezer if I was going to put a tank inside. I thought I would be safe to freeze ethanol in a normal freezer tho but anti freeze definitely sounds safer . I just didn’t want to have Worry about cleaning anti freeze off my tanks cause there not real sleeves , just in small trash cans as a sleeve .

Sounds incredibly sketchy. Scale down, or upgrade. Don’t hurt yourself trying to meet quotas you can’t manage with your budget or equipment.

How about, don’t put tanks in freezers? I don’t care what type of freezer it is, it’s a bad method and deserves to be roasted appropriately, lest you be.

It’s really concerning you’re working in a situation where this can occur, and NEED to be reminded to not do shit you would never see in a single professional SAFE operation: https://www.instagram.com/p/B2aoDDLACLd/

Don’t fuck up doing jerryrigged crap that will kill you dead.

Stay safe. Plenty of foolhardy young people have lost their lives over small mistakes these past years. I’ve had a couple of exceptionally stupid mishaps. It’s a very silly way to go.

Fair enough . I assume a legitimate explosion proof freezer is used in all types of labs with all types of flammable materials inside but they definitely don’t use any homemade ones so I will follow and I appreciate ur advice . Is Propylene glycol safe to put in the freezer ? Saw it flammable rafting was 1

the safety nazis use non dot solvent tanks with triclamps on them.

I would just get a Chinese chiller or reach out to the community for a - 20 chiller at a decent rate. They’re another one of those things that’s near impossible to find under 1.000$.
