My first 5’x5’ DWC setup!

Have you looked at the California light works lights? I’ve been running a solar storm 880 for over five years and love it, easily out produces a single ended 1000w in quality and quantity.

So, it begins!

A little pupdate on how these guys and girls are doing.

Day 23 since germination, just worked my way up to 1/2 the recommended dosage on the GH Flora stuff so I think I’ll be starting there from now on.

Mad respect to @Demontrich and @FicklePickle for droppin knowledge on me like its their job! Couldn’t be more grateful to them and to this community in general for being so awesome and openminded. You guys rock \m/

So I’m loving these results but still I feel at 20 days above ground, they should be a little further along. I might be crazy. In fact I hope I’m crazy.

Guys I’ve fried some pickles & ive grown some sweet sweet tomatoes in my time. Love DWC for my mothers, aero for clones & aero/nft for bloom - no veg! I use to put 6 - 600 hoods in less than 80 sqft. of space x 20. I could t imagine doing anything else in the time I have in this rock. I would use 5 gallon buckets with 2” pucks & air for dissolved o2. Mother’s would last about 2/3 months before it was time to take a new mom cutting. I could max those moms out for much longer time spans with bigger containers but for some space is king. DWC still fastest for moms I’ve found but you have to have eyes & keen sense for what your roots are doing - cause let’s face it we’re growing roots & opening stomata are the end of the day so get the medium/buffer out of the way & let’s rock - no wool!!!

I can’t edit my original post but I went the DWC route! These seedlings and the big ones are all in DWC. I started the seedlings in rapidrooters which kind of sucks when I have to uproot them. I’ve lost some to the shock already. I’m picking up an aerocloner for clones! and I think I’m gonna run two in each of these 18gal totes when I go to flowering.

Any time man. I’m not trying to horde information, this community has done and continues to do so much for me. Anything I can do to give back, I’m 110% for.

Aero cloner is the way to go. You can diy one if that’s your bag. No reason to uproot just 45 degree a cut & toss into you aero cloner - roots in 7/14 days. Been cloning with dissolved O2 & nothing else since 95 with excellent results. K.I.S.S.

P.S. Well water here always…

I’m getting an aerocloner for sure. Last time I use rapid rooters EVER. Can anyone advise against keeping them in the rapid rooterS? I don’t wanna stunt my new seedlings like I did the last batch but I also don’t wanna leave them in the peat moss if it will definitely do more harm than good. Is it absolutely necessary?

Never started in rapid rooters so cant help you there but if you can veg them out till 4th node you could take a cut above the first & keep in veg to grow more foliage. If anything goes ary understand you only have one cut & a maybe in veg. Best bet is to grow to 4/5th node, top then take cuts after plant develops multiple potential cut sites, usually 2.5+ months.

you can use rockwool plugs and 3" blocks before transplanting, then just put one or 2 rows of hydroton so the rockwool doesnt stay soaking wet important

You’re suggesting leaving in rock wool for entirety of its’ life? I don’t want to be pulling roots out of the mediums. Unless it’s something loose like hydroton or clay pebbles etc.

How big do you suggest the nodes be before topping? I have 5 nodes already but none of them are big enough for a cut

For sexing 5 nodes is fine to top. You should have enough growth after a month -/+ to take a few cuts then you can flip your topped girl into flower & see sex.

that said, if you accidentally top before that, it generally will be fine, just stunts the veg for a week or 2.

I was sleepy the other day and I was pinching tops on the new clones… Didn’t notice the new seedling I had in there too and pinched the top right off at node 1

It’s doing good a week later, new growth and 3 tops. Hoping for a stress resistant female

You don’t need to pull the roots from the Rockwool. Rockwool is a hydro media.
What @anon56994712 is suggesting is what I suggested to you as well. Rockwool will work amazing in that system as long as the rock wool isn’t directly touching water. About a half inch gap between block and water and the roots will start to drop every time. I too like the aero cloner, but Rockwool can be used with great success as well

This is how I do my cloning, then cut them apart and transplant away

When I talked to the current culture rep at canna con, one thing that stuck out the most, was him saying that “you aren’t doing it right if you don’t have to throw the baskets away at the end”.

I throw all my media away and baskets because they’re cheap as hell to replace and the baskets are absolutely toast after a run. Not worth trying to cut the roots out or spend time cleaning them.

 sounds like something I’m certainly capable of.

My problem though Pickle is at 1/2” away from water the rockwool will definitely begin to absorb water. Idk how but it happens to my rapid rooters too. I only have them in the netpot over 1.5” away from the water and they still become soaked on their own  I also see you’ve just stuck clones into a piece of rockwool lol what do you when they root? I know they don’t stay in there altogether.

With aero you only have a neoprene puck to discard. Less waste = more space

I’ll be using aero for cloning. From the research I’ve done (I may be wrong) apparently the benefits of aero are really only in the beginning when the roots are still hanging.
