Most efficient way to run roto

Hey guys just wanna hear some feedback from people on here that run a roto. I currently am using a 20L AI and just curious on how everyone runs there rotos. Are you guys slowly filling your ball as your recovering or are you filling your ball up completely and then recovering? Thanks

This has been discussed many times on here.
Preheat feed, and feed as slow/fast as it evaporates, keep a thin film.

I use a cheap peristaltic pump to control my feed rate quantitatively. And feed it at a rate as close to evap as possible so it’s in a near steady state.

Doh!

Thank you for making me feel dumb…

Again.

I’ve seen @Akoyeh adjust the feed on a 50L and then let it go for three hrs.

I think it took him about a week playing with it before he got that familiar with its needs.

If I’d only realized I could just replace those skills with a pump…

Presumably the evaporation rate slows as crude accumulates in the boiling flask…do you have a method for dealing with that automagically?

No not really. You do eventually need to look at it and adjust when it gets close to full. I never tried to automate that function. Maybe you could set up a level sensor or something.
