Know your enemy (Aphids)

FWIW a commercial ozone generator in a small tent did absolutely nothing against aphids, ozone does not seem useful against these bugs. Thank you for all the useful information here

Thank you so much for this recommendation! I like pyrethrin product for general insect control but I’m hesitant to use them on my plants. I do have a couple questions about this concoction:

  1. When you say you think they are mixable is that because the neem oil would help emulsify the pyrethrin? And what ratio would you mix them together?
  2. How long can you spray it onto plants for? I know the obvious answer would be “till they’re gone!” but would you recommend stopping right before flowering? only apply up to 5 times total?

A spray for incest control, now that’s some fancy science!

I was told never to use Pyrethrins as a spray in flower. Root drench only, stop at day 21-28. Can spray in veg but plants sprayed with it could use a spray to clean it off before they’re flowered. The residual from it can stay quite a long time on surfaces. It will nuke the shit out of the aphids though.

Other great products are:

Velifer
Venerate CG
No Fly
Azaguard

To my knowledge all the above^ can be used up until the day of harvest as a root drench or foliar if needed and it will not effect testing. Be careful root drenching too many oils on your roots at one time. You can spray multiple days in a row if needed, just make sure to give plenty of break after (2-4 days) for the plants to recover before spraying again. We’ve had to spray two days in a row just to get ahead of the aphid cycle. We like to root drench on days we don’t spray, and spray on days we don’t drench. These sprays should be able to get you through to the end of the harvest.

If you have aphids are trying to get over it:

I would recommend cloning any genetics you want to keep, root them somewhere besides the affected room. Then once you’re done with that round clean like crazy and start from seed, keeping the clones back to inspect them to ensure you killed all the aphids. We dipped our clones in a mixture of the above when we dealt with aphids and had an extra clean clone room to take the genetics too. Even then we still found 2 fliers in a dome after all that. They’re nasty bugs but they can be beat. Getting the colony that’s established out is the most important thing to do. Then treat like crazy.

I like rotating venerate and grandevo. Seem to work well staying ahead of the problem.
