This id how mine are comming out
Even when I say my 2:1 Heptane:distillate crystallization has some impurity, it’s definitely not as much as you pictured. How hot is the pentane when you first dissolve the distillate? And how long does it take to begin to precipitate? How long does it take to fully precipitate? It may help to keep it warm for a bit and let it slowly cool.
Ive been using the future tek getting dist and pent about 31-32c just before boiling
Takes maybe 30 min to start crashing and about a night to fully finish
Very discolored, but that said, you have excellent “spire” formation. Try a 3-4:1 pentane to oleoresin ratio and see if you results improve.
Also are you doing any refinement filtration of your crude before distillation?
Also try to increase the temperature and time of your boil when mixing the solution. try to make the pentane boil. heat it to 37C, let boil for min or two, BE SURE TO DO THIS IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA IDEALLY A HOOD
Also be sure to make sure you get ALL the distillate into solution, if you have any little clumps or thinfilms on the walls of the vessel, it will end up discoloring your crystals.
like for example hopefully this helps you, when i first started crystallizing in the buffet trays, my first 5 attempts all failed, they crashed, but they were all discolored. I was scratching my head as too why and then i realized that the tool i was using to stir, a silicone spatula ( dont do this, use SS), was actually leaving a thin film of distillate and skating over it as i stirred. That coupled with just bringing the temp up to below boiling meant that some of the distillate did not go into solution, and would undoubtedly end up in the lattices discoloring the crystals.
to get a clean repeatable crash every time, that tests out at 99.86% before wash. I credit Cryo extractions, refinement filtration, good distillation, and stirring solutions like a mad man.
Much appreciated, i am doing a hot filter before cooling , just added 2:1 pentane to distillate trying that out as well as rewashing and crystallizing the iso I have already made seems to be crashing out well.
And i am taking crude winterizing, roto, then hitting 2 passes with the vta
I’m starting to wonder if dirty crystallization could be a path to THC remediation for a full spectrum distillate with <.3% THC?
thats not a half bad idea coppertop, i have an analyitcal facility, i can test this theory out for us.
ill make a small batch of nasty crystals and test the mother liquor decanted off vs the crystal goo
That would be badass! I’d love to test it myself, but the logistics of getting testing done in my area is incredibly slow and frustratingly complicated, so it would take weeks.
no worries, i have a room full of of goodies next door, its my pleasure to help this community chase understanding.
ill start a solution crashing right now, and have some reports in a day or 2
Couldnt get the shot but my color is so much better ! Although i am just cleaning 85% isolate material these formations are much cleaner
Just finished my isolation. 300 grams of Isolate, 107 grams left over after recovering pentane. I thought I started with 415 grams, looks like it was a bit less. For a total of almost 74% yield. Still waiting on test results for the distillate I started with, but this 3.5:1 pentane to distillate is fucking great. Thanks for the tip @RockSteady! The crystals are a bit off-white, but perfect for my purposes and I’m sure a recrystallization would make it 99.9%.
GOOD STUFF COPPERTOP!!! that makes me happy!!
I have not forgotten about the experiment, seems its harder for me to crash dirty stuff then clean now haha, i should have a small batch sufficiently dirty enough to run the experiment. its in the deep freeze now i should be able to pull it tommarow mourning
Has anyone tried re-crashing out their mother liquor after isolating cbd? My mother liquor still has about 36% CBD content and doesn’t seem to want to recrystallize when adding fresh pentane, even tried seeding it with isolate lol.
Starting Distillate:--------------Isolate:-------------Mother Liquor:
CBDV ----0.846% -------------0.822%------------------.860%
CBG-------2.470% ---------------------------------------4.55%
CBD -----70.396%-----------96.35%-----------------36.54%
THCV------0.217%------------------------------------------.89%
CBN -------0.340%-----------------------------------------.71%
d9-THC --11.347% ------------.16%------------------21.04%
CBC--------1.532%----------------------------------------3.63%
Hope this hplc data can help someone.
Interesting you got that much THC in your Isolate. How was the color?
Here’s the potency results from the distillate I started with. Now patiently awaiting my Isolate potency results. I’m guessing around 85% given these results and my 73% yields.
That isolate should be 98%+ you posted. Atleast above 95 but yea that color and consistency should be right at 98.5-99.3%.
Unless it’s yellower then what it looks in the pic, what’s the color on it broken down?
Isolation of CBD is all about the distillate quality. I don’t say CBD concentration as that is only one aspect to crystallization efficiency due to the wide ranging compositions of crude extracts. Better distillate, easier isolation. If your distillate doesn’t naturally crystallize after 12 hours you need to either distill and/or extract better. You should never need two passes for CBD, if you do, see above. We have distilled quality product from 2% aggregate.
This is not always true. I have made 78% CBD distillate that did not crystallize for almost 2 weeks unless exposed to UV.
Got a full yield on crystallization, about 75%.
