High CBN Conversion Methods

That might work, but I’m thinking even less soluble if possible.
Ethanol solution with ethyl acetate added, or something like that?:person_shrugging:

Anyone have solubility data for thc and CBD in ethyl acetate? I’m wondering at what temps we can make CBD relatively insoluble in at a given solvent.
So any info on hexane, methanol, Heptane, pentane, ethanol, or any mixtures there of would be greatly appreciated

CBD readily dissolves in ethyl acetate.

Do you think something like 5% methanol in pentane, dissolving at 35°C at 3.5:1 ratio disty:solvent then cooling to, say, -20°C would work efficiently?

I normally set the solvent to a gentle boil and then add a small amount to what i am recrystallizing. then either wait for it to cool to room temp or freeze it.

CBD is SUPER soluble in methanol. If you find a solvent besides water that cannabinoids don’t readily dissolve in or are at least less soluble than cold pentane, that would be great info to share. Maybe tetrahydrofuran? Not sure how well that would purge, but it’s BP is about that of methanol… And, duh, not much to purge if it doesn’t dissolve the cannabinoid.

Edit: I briefly skimmed through this article and it looks like THF was used to elute surfactants in a sample of THC, but did not elute the cannabinoid. Please correct me if I’m a moron and read this wrong, but it could be worth looking into.

Where do you teach?

Its sounds dangerous in pure state

CBD dissolves in THF. its used as a solvent when adding a difluoromethylene substituent to the alcohol on CBD.

I have gotten 30% yield (dirty crystals) from very fatty crude doing this with hexane. I posted pics a while ago in the “OTSS Sauce” thread I think.

Winterize first, then do the crystallization as mentioned.

Try acetonitrile

In a cbd crystallization where some decarbed thc is present, could thc be considered a nonpolar solvent at temperatures above its melting point?

I wouldn’t count on it or consider it’s impact on the solvent system too heavily.

How did this work out?

Havent tried it yet, I’m confirming the catalyst first then I’m going to try it on CBD to see what it does. Next week I’ll be trying this

Has anyone here done the iodine tek yet? I’m thinking to try it this week as I have procured all the fixins except mother liquor- buying pentane today. Didn’t wanna have to make isolate but it’s lookin like I have to.
