Solventless and solvent free is a term used by snobby people that want to belittle other extractors. They use it as a marketing ploy to make those using solvents feel shamed. Water and terpenes are solvents and just like @cyclopath was alluding to, co2 crude extraction requires a polar solvent most of the time for winterization

Anything can be a solvent, and yes that obviously includes water (the āuniversalā solvent), but we all know what people mean when they want solvent free, however ridiculous that is in practice when refining further. However, in this context, neither water nor CO2 mean solvent in the way consumers think about it. I think what consumers really mean to say is VOC free.
Maybe we should start calling those methods VOC free? At least pre-winterization. Thatād be more accurateā¦
