LMAO that’s me

What’s your preferred torque? Does it vary per size of tri clamp?

Me too lmao
haven’t had any issues so far.

yes, and gasket type plays a factor too.

Brass is just safer to use in this environment. Reminds me of a scary but hilarious situation I was put in while working in the refineries in TX… the main hydrogen line was leaking and they wanted us to see if it was on fire (since you cant see it during the day)… story short, they swapped all our estwing hammers for special brass hammers to not cause sparks.

25-30 inch lbs tuff steel
45-50+ inch lbs ptfe
buna/viton 20-30 inch lbs
edpm/ptfe envolope 25-38 inch lbs
for the larger clamps I like to start with the high end of the range, smaller clamps get the lower end.
what wrench do you have?

I have a few different torque wrenches. I think most are craftsman. I use them for automotive work, along with the husky impact sockets.

I recommend this tool, although you have to know how to place tri clamps in a way where you can turn the driver in tight spaces. I like to adjust tri clamps as closed and even as possible by hand and then I put my screws/washer/nuts in place and evenly tighten them up as much as I can by hand the I get the tool and give it a few more turns with my desired tourque. I have mine set at 20lbs even though it’s suggested at 30lbs(had a specialist come do a pressure test). Too tight will damage seal/gasket and cause leaks. So yeah depending on the size of your clamps and pressures used in the system apply tourque as needed. Also try using a bit of coconut oil on collection pot gaskets to keep them from wearing out due to the temperature. Keeps rubbers gaskets moisturized and healthy. But hey wth do I know :man_shrugging:t2:

Buna is good to -22f, viton is good to around -49 f . Ptfe would be your best bet at that range, although it would be preferable that it was not a seal you regularly needed to cycle. Ptfe work forms, once it is squished too many times it will no longer seal.
