Do you guys baby the temps through 150C> Like set it to 40…60…70…90…, or just set it straight to 100C then 150C. I was always taught to baby it through those steps but have read about people just going hot fast.
I think there are chemistries that can happen to THC when you go too hot too fast in a big flask. Mostly theories about the exact results though at the moment
When you have volatiles in the flask ramping heat that quickly can be a mistake. CO2 from decarb can also cause bumping.
I baby it up, not necessarily by 10 degrees though.
I usually set it to 90c off the start then pump it up to 120c after reaching equilibrium. From there I bump by 10 degrees. Once I reach 150c I do 5 degree bumps.
Rapid heat + vacuum scares me.
Too hot too fast or too small of a sample volume compared to the wattage of the mantle have given weird results in my experience. I have seen acidic cannabinoids on the test results when this happens such as CBNa, THCa, etc.
But I am talking about putting 2000-3000 watts into like under 6kg. I think they basically burn the edges because proper mixing has not started. You really have to push on the gas.
I had the same experience running a liter and a half in a 22L, I thought the testing lab was fucked cause i distilled it(twice) for HOURS(using the shitty head Elliot discontinued.)
It had a lot of thca in it and it turned into a weird just milk white looking jar wheenver it cooled down, looked like water clear when warm. wish i sent it around more. — 8k watt mantle
Comment may be long overdue and unnecessary but your head could be your bottleneck, not insulating could be so as well. my flask compared to my head has a 15C difference if not insulated. pretty huge if you barely into thcs BP. Bumping your temperatures mad high can increase speeds but there other factors that should be considered before.
I have run a $55 vacuum pump on 5L when my 32 CFM welch needed repairs - 175 micron was the lowest i hit and it seemed to distill at same rate, we signed as a distributor a few years back to resell after the whole “bigger pump - faster speeds” was being pushed on everyone. Ive played with the 8 cfm 16 and 32 on several shortpaths only difference ive noticed is that the 32 cfm gets to the same micron lvl as the 8 in a couple minutes less. A huge system like a wiped film may be different but ive only played with a chinese one so idk
Ive put multiple edwards on 5 and 10l’s and as you said the pump down time was the only thing I noticed. Im 1” except for the #34 joint and i didnt notice any increase of liters per hr.
Haven’t noticed any difference except pump down speeds running 2 Edward 30s and a sogevac vs 1 Edwards 30
Both on a 12 and 22L
They all eventually hit the same micron and didn’t notice any faster of a run time
do you mean $550?
Can you give the pump model, if you are still around ? ![]()
