That’s what I was thinking
that would make sense why there’s so much hold up on the first run. I was just thinking how in the world would someone get any return if they swapped crc columns every 30lbs you would go out of business lol I’m definitely going to mix my media on the next one.
The way I see it there’s a hierarchy to how you should organize your perceived solutions depending on your “actual” problems. First and foremost you are using far too little solvent and until you use the correct amount you will be unaware of what “actual” other problems you are facing. Also the amount of powders you’re filtering through is far too much if you were doing a single run through it but if you are running multiple runs through It, it’s a different story. Once these two problems are addressed and if you are still having problems then you can move on to solve those problems in a logical order of hierarchy but until which point, you will not know for sure what problems you are actually facing.
Which was said in the first post and several posts after…
“Use less media” would imply a higher solvent to media ratio. A higher solvent to material ratio was also already suggested.
I was speaking specifically on what media bros says about their kitty litter.
In traditional column and thin layer chromatography, silica is used in the stationary phase to separate pigments/compounds in a mixture and remove moisture/polar compounds.
That being said, we also still mix our media, just at a different ratio than the 1:4 you suggested (less silica).
It’s all nice and dandy but until he fixes the first problem which is solvent ratios and then if there is a problem with filter media ratios that needs to be fixed and only then you can start addressing problems that until you fix the original one are all but fictional in his original question. If you are very low on gas almost empty and your car is running rough checking the air in the tires should not be your first concern
I think we all got that by now…
That addresses OP’s original issue. The switch to b80 and silica was certainly a helpful suggestion, and OP should take that free spoon IMO. Media bros is trash and should be used for such…
Definitely going to use more solvent and I’ve been doing 3-4 runs through my crc before I change it thanks everyone for the input
Would you prefer opaline silica over media bros zeolites?
Or are you an OilDri fan?
I definitely noticed a difference when I switched to BVV from media bros but I’m still learning about different medias at the moment
I’m worried about you I might need to set up an intervention.
Is carbon chemistry decently priced?
Carbon Chemistry is one of the best places to grab your powders from. Their prices are decent, and they are always stocked. Silica and Bentonite clay can be found very cheap without the “branding” though.
