Bentonite clay use and removal

So with the filter your talking about is there a rough estimate for product loss of any of the cannabinoids I’m trying to minimalist loss of cbd as I grew this strain specifically for my mother who’s currently been smoking it and likes the effects but wishes to have it in something like hard candies but I don’t want the chlorophyll to make it taste gross or unpleasant

@Filterman9 where might I find a link to these filters that I’m assuming are premade so it should be plug and play? Something as simple as that would be perfect as this is my first tincture I’ve produced

You could try it with molten crude you must maintain 80 c the entire time. Be safe hot oil is no joke

Hi DoablePath, here you goCARBOFIL_04_2018_E.pdf|attachment (592.9 KB)

Hi DoablePath, we have been selling these carbon filters for about 2 years now and we have not had any feedback from users that have noticed or quantified any loses after using the filter. That is not to say there is not some loss. We are working with a company now that is testing for this very thing and when we have results we will know much more about this. But as I say, if there were significant loss, I’m sure we would have had that pointed out to us by now. Thanks again, Greg

Hi DoablePath, Just saw this, if you can send me an email asking about this, I can email the literature to you. I have not been able to attach literature to this format so far, still learning. Thanks, Greg gregh@heyesfilters.com

@Homesteader

@Homesteader This is who i was talking about

Bleaching clay products with a lower ph like pure flo’s “Supreme 6000” have a stronger affinity for chlorophyll than the ph neutral clays typically used for crude refinement such as pure flo’s “B80”.

I think he wants to keep all cold when passing treu the powders
Deu to the slow speed things start warming up in the powders

For the 6000 and the b80 Do you need a centrifuge to separate them after or can they be filtered out with for example a 25 micron mesh

A centrifuge would be more budget friendly for me than the expensive carbon filter setup that I do like but don’t have the extra cash for

I have access to plenty of material to build my own centrifuge from scratch capable of 5000 rpms and able to do 3 (1 quart) jars at a time

What would u use and how would you build it @DoablePath

You can use a fuge to separate the bentonite from the solution but probably not with a 25 micron paper. Clay is made up of extremely small particles. However 25 micron filter paper would be sufficient to filter out the bentonite if you allowed the bentonite to form “flocs” with the other suspended particles. Bentonite causes the particles in solution to stick to one another via electrostatic attraction and forms larger particles made up of smaller particles which can be filtered wuth 25 micron filter paper.

Main thing is that need to allow some time for the floccuation to occur before filtering.

For any smokable product always filter down to 2um, regardless of bentonite use

Why do you reccomend 2 micron? I filter below 2 micron, im just curious.

Same. The plate i just got from killa is 1um

Lower the better, 2um is an absolute minimum. 0.1um is probably best!

I have a lawnmower engine that I’d be using to drive the system stand-alone the engine runs at roughly 3000 rpm and using different sized pulleys I can achieve speeds up to 15000rpm. With my current pulleys doing out the math I’d be roughly 5000rpm to start and I can get bigger pulleys for my engine shaft to increase the centrifuge speed I have a basic drawing that I can post of how I’m going to be setting it up it’s going to take a lot of time before it’s ready so it’ll be for the next grows trim

Essentially I’m going to have rubber lined buckets to put jars in that will be suspended on eye bolts inside a disc that will have a pulley at the base with a bearing at the bottom and a bearing at the top of the disc

Ignore the 10 dollar minimum in the pic that was taken on a store counter
