that’s why you run linux under the hood and virtualize the NT box on equipment like that. then they can have NT forever…

That may be in fact what they ended up doing (but i think even getting the NT install files to put on VM was hard). It got fixed just a couple weeks after i left, but i don’t know what exactly happened.

yeah, definitely helps if you perform that work preemptively…rather than when the NT box quits on you.

they had a femto-second spectrophotometer at Berkeley that was still being run by a Mac 512k in 2000 when I wandered off to support a lab rather than the department.
