Proper Ventilation of a Work Place

@Killa12345 and I briefly discussed the safety of operating a CLS system indoors today and I figured I’d start a thread on it to weigh differing opinions. It’s quite apparent that many users here are not operating in hundred thousand dollar plus laboratories with state of the art equipment so this is more geared towards those members!

I’m sure we’ve all seen youtube videos of extractors operating their CLS indoors, citing the sealed nature of the CLS as being safe for use indoors. What are peoples opinion on this? What exactly is the bare minimum for operating a CLS indoors? Should a CLS be ran indoors in any place other than a properly inspected and equipped laboratory?

I’m fully against operating a closed loop indoors unless your in a proper c1d1 enclosure. These aren’t for just making money. These are to save people lives. Mistakes happen! These should be operated with safety first.

No amount of money is worth half the skin on your body or your life. These are relatively safe. But as the BVV sight glass thread has shown us. Some problems can occur.

Please operate these safe guys. I know it’s cold where some of you are. Please take proper precautions!

Another thing I’m really against also is storing solvent tanks in deep freezers. I didn’t have a problem but I did once have a leaky tank that I didn’t know was leaky and that tank was always stored in a deep freezer. I’m really lucky nothing happened.

It’s only takes a few dollars and like 15-30 mins to chill a tank with a dry ice slurry. Please guys don’t store solvent tanks in deep freezers either!

Sorry for my public safety warning but I see a ton of these fools on YouTube and it’s only gonna take one idiot to ruin it for us all

Turning on the oven and opening the door helps evaporate excess gas buildup.

Oh my god YES! I had something similar happen with butane cans back in the day, took them out of the freezer to find some of them were COMPLETELY EMPTY! God that was a scary day, I know exactly how you felt.

I completely agree that most of these guys on YouTube are asking for it. I take that back, no one deserves to have their life taken or destroyed by accident, but you know what I mean! These guys have absolutely zero right to be posting tuts on CLS when they don’t address workplace safety in the slightest.

Good idea to have proper ventilation if your not in a C1D1 enclosure. This not perfect but it is a crude way to stay somewhat safe while working. From 1:20-4:00 is where he shows his setup.

The ole genius Bret maverick! I’ve watched all those videos. Definitely felt like an idiot when I relized he recovers on the liquid side of his tank.

I wish YouTube didn’t delete a lot of his videos cause mad people can learn a lot from that dude!

You know my oven evap comment was funny.

And Bret maverick was rad, back when. I wonder what happened to him. He kept having drug relapses and overdoses. I always wanted to see him prevail in the extraction world.

I sadly When in europe have to cls inside
First of all i only blast pure butane No propane at all
Reason safety
My setup 2x 48" Jacketed
12" collection pot Jacketed
Valved on all sides every hose every thing has a valve
And everysection on the rig has a vent valve with a hose to the outside
Then the whole thing stands in a cabinet plywood measurements
that has a 2400m3 torin fan outside blowing in and the cabinet has a hose 10" diameter to the outside
I also have ready at all times a bin with salt water and about 10kg of ice in the freezer to drop My cls collection pot in If neccesary
Now the safety aspect of working with butane only is that the boiling point of -1 C
Makes iT easy to keep butane a liquid
All jackets run at -30C so i Basicly have No pressure When operating other than Some warm vapor to push at 3 bar
And whenever i use the cls i am always next to iT
Hoses have busted on me close a valve
Shut the door and keep chiller running
Once pressure is released Isolate section and release gas by hosed vent valve
I know iT aint great but thats how i have to
Recovery is passieve sousvide 30C tank Jacketed and submerged in salt ice water
In the closet all Night without suppervision
I have 6 collection pots to make a full day blasting once full recovery starts and on to the next leaving 2 pots daisy chained recovering in the Night
Once done all tane Goes back into hvac tanks for storage
What. Can i say this is roguelab s way
