When I look at a solvent, the first spec I look for is residue on evaporation.
Virtually all solvents except hplc grade contain residue on evaporation.
When it comes to MeOH, I prefer the anhydrous grade which has an order of magnitude less ROE than a typical AR grade.
ACS grade MeOH is speced at 10 ppm ROE as compared to Anhydrous which is speced at 3 ppm and typically runs lower.
Your results may vary…
Using any solvent with >10ppm ROE isn’t in my bag of tricks.
