Lyophilizer vs. Freeze Dryer

I’m trying to determine if investing in a Buchi Lyovapor would be more beneficial for my rosin production needs vs purchasing multiple Large Harvest Right freeze dryers. One Buchi unit would replace 6 freeze dryers, helping me save a ton of floor space. However, my main concern is using vials vs flat trays when it comes to the actual freeze drying process. Any input would be appreciated…

It’s all about surface area. Exceeding 1/2-3/4" in “thickness” will substantially slow your sublimation. Those shell freezers are great for things like vaccines but for bud you pretty much just get 1/2" thick pile at the bottom of the bottle, which doesn’t equate to much mass.

Also the bottles are pretty annoyingly expensive. We were going to make up some bell jar adapters for ours but then we got a chamber style unit. I still want to try lyophilizing to target terpenes specifically out of oil pre-decarb, which is a task more suited to a tree type lyophilizer though.
