ok, that makes sense. What can you produce per month? I know a quality supplier that can make 500kg/mo. no yellow and no residual smell. always tests at 99.5% with no d8.
I’m not in the mass-CBN game right now. I make high dollar kilograms of rarer compounds. But 99% is the bare minimum to be acceptable this late in the CBN game. This post is about making rare CBN homologues, not schlepping to make a couple bucks per kilo on normal old CBN.
I’m sure your supplier is fine, I’m also sure that if they’re using sulfur they have far worse yields, far higher intrinsic process hazards (high temp, H2S, nasty in-process smells), and most likely require multiple distillations and crystallizations to get to the end point. It may work for them, but I wouldn’t touch sulfur or ever ask my staff to.

Whoever said that is either misinformed or perhaps overly cautious, and you don’t need very much iodine. The truth is, iodine is a very common reagent used for far more legitimate syntheses than illegitimate, its one of a few go-to oxidizers - and domestic and foreign vendors know this. If you know someone who NEEDS 500kg a month, certainly put my group in contact.

In efforts to revive this, we are able to produce CBN and just about any CBN homolog (CBNP, CBNV, etc) and meet Japan compliant specs for THCs/HHCs. Normal old CBN is fairly readily available in so far as we make it every day, but the homologs are only produced on a contract manufacture basis and we do not keep inventory of these.

are you selling it as a powder or an oil? All I can find is oil form so unsure if it can even be an isolated solid
Both times I’ve made CBV and CBP they have not crystallized readily, although I didn’t exactly make it my life’s work. But in this case, yes they would be available as distillate.
Reading your earlier posts about sulfur vs iodine I assume that you aren’t using sulfur for these oxidation rxns. Are final products clean of iodine? or do you have any COA that test for residual metals to be clean
We run a modified iodine procedure, no metals. Between our workup and distillation we remove any residual iodine from the rxn.
Is your CBP free of THCP and HHCP as well? Like cleaned with chromatography of some sort? I’ve seen a few COAs from other providers that have residual HHCP or THCP and looking for close to 0 as possible
THCs and HHCs have never been a problem for us. For some frame of reference, our normal CBN has long been Japan compliant for THCs and HHCs.

bump, I have something like 14kg CBN distillate (90-98%) on hand looking to fire sale. Its great feedstock for crystallization and Japan compliant for d9THC.
edit: only can be sold as a single lot, asking $800/kg OBO

On the demand side, one market that used to pull CBN closed this year.
CBN became a designated substance in Japan on 1 June 2026, covering manufacture, import, sale, possession and use. The prohibition is written against products containing CBN and there is no published concentration threshold attached, so it isn’t a spec problem you can engineer around, and material carrying CBN as a minor is caught the same way as CBN sold as CBN.
Relevant to the homologs specifically: Japan schedules both named compounds and substance groups defined by structure, so a chain-length variant is not automatically outside the net. Separately, the abbreviations in your title aren’t defined consistently anywhere I can find, which becomes its own problem the moment someone asks whether a given jurisdiction covers them. I went into that over here rather than repeat it:
