HPS, led , CMH, or quantom boards?

Hey all! First thanks for anyone that responds…I know we work mainly w post grow…

But…I’m trying to get my powerbill down and not lose anything like quantity or quality.

I currently have 4- 1000w hps bloom and friend made the switch to led, way cooler, stacked better, more trichs…

So here’s my questions for any those that have made the switch…

Do the Chinese vipstraspectra whatever or companies like that 2000w led be enough to replace a single light

Those American ones look great but price OMG

Also I have looked into quantom boards…was told I can get them prebuilt at certain site and specific for bloom or veg…they supposed to be double the output…

Any info would be wonderful and thanks all!

Cmh!!
You’ll never regret it. I swapped out a total of 6x600 for 7x315 and I kill my weight easily, much better quality product, AND save quite a bit on my power bills.

Would 4 715 in two 84 spaces in a 1212 room not produce a lot of heat though? Right now the lights are in line with a fan

I was under the impression that CMH needs to have the glass open to get the full spectrum of the light

Not at all. Please dont listen to the rookies at joke it up. I’ve been running cmh far longer than most, with the exception of rives and hammerhead. Those 2 sold me on cmh 3yrs ot si ago. I run all air cooled hoods. Philip’s make a t9 ands a t12 version bulbs. One made for open/ vert applications, the other for sealed ONLY due to it having only 1 glass jacket.

I pull weight with only 4x315 in my flower room. I pull 3.5-4 max every 10 weeks. 4 if I run only darlins net strain.

How many u suggest for 8*4-5ish?

To be honest that’s where I was leaning till I heard all that…

Do they have some I can just use my hoods…like adapters w just bulb and ballast

Yes
I used all my old big kahuna hoods, cmh mogul socket adapters, prism ballasts, Philip’s 942 and 930 bulbs. I shaved 2 weeks off veg, and save about 150/mo in power savings.

So to replace 1000s without losing anything is the 715 ? This is my bloom room, I’ll switch veg soon…veg is 2-600mh

No
Use a raptor hood with a Dual mogul socket. Put a 942 and a 930 bulb in each hood for 630w in each hood.

U have me very confused, 2 bulbs in one hood? Could I not get away with my old hoods?

Could I not replace every 1000 w one 715? Sorry just curious

They only make bulbs in a 315 format that you can put in an existing hood. But they make a 630de and I believe a 930de. They just came out with a 1000w cmh. But I havent read too much about it. That may be the way to go. But your not saving any money, rather spending more to swap out HPS bulbs and ballasts for cmh bulbs and cmh square wave ballasts

Here a close up of what cmh can do for you. Remember, theres only 1265w total (4x315).

This is darlins net, specifically Dansbud’s (may he rest in peace now) personal pheno. Don’t mind the foxtailing, that was a run wit a new booster called headmasta. Dont ues it, horrible FT on all my strains

Ok so sounds like I just need one more light in middle on each side…,3 -315s each side?

Then I would only have to add 2 hoods and 6 ballast and bulbs +adapters

How close should I run sealed hoods, like 1000s…I know if room at temp will getting lower cause streching to go away and fatter buds?

Btw check out Nectar for the Gods nutrients!

It’s revoultionary if you ask me… cannabis calcium whore,it’s calcium carbonate based line…not call nitrate like most Cal mag! That way u can deliver all way to the end bloom! Check it out

Use prism ballasts
Basic no frills ballast, Philip’s knockoffs
About 85 each

Use ONLY Philips genuine bulbs. I can source them for about 75 each. Some sell “philips”, but are immitatation knockoffs.

Adapters are about 15 each

Shoot me and if you would like the links to the companies I use.

I’ve been using technaflora for 6 yrs now. I did swap out sugar daddy for botanicare sweet raw that’s 50% cheaper and more potent

Where is love for LED?? Right now running some led conversion t-5 in an 8 banger. Purchased a Fluence 2x led, and have been loving growth. Still haven’t cut back on flower, yet another light is on the way before I do this. Judging by noding, the flowers should be thick with bud sites. Will keep rid thread posted with crop pics of flower, if I recall. Cheers.

CMH is life. Literally nothing compares to the terp production you can get from CMH. I’ve gotten up to 26% of the crude weight in terps.

You have evidence to back this claim up? You’re considering crude weight what? How’s is your overhead on lights a month and how large is your operation? Many facilities production costs are dropping drastically, producing pounds that sell for a couple hundred. I don’t see metal halide, ceramic or not, reducing costs of operation. vertical integration with CMH is not feasible, increasing square footage. Fluence I have now is pushing out ~800 umol of light and pulling under 2 amps, c’mon, that’s not even the high output.

I’ve been doing research on LEDs for a few years now, am in the process of upgrading my own setup. It’s not as big as yours but if you’re doing this at home, LED is a no brainer. Quantum boards are great as long as you have enough height to take advantage of it. The intensity is much higher so you need them a bit higher than usual from the plants.

Me on the other hand, I’m doing a LED strip build using samsung strips. I’m running in a 6x6 area, so I’m replacing 2 600w HPS with 1200w of LED strips. It’s going to be bright as hell for sure.

My main reason for going with the LED strips is I have 5’ ceilings to work with and my current lighting is not enough for a 6x6 footprint, even though I make it work.

CMH bulbs are hands down the best for production currently, however LED’s are a really close second in my opinion. Growing side by side you may notice a difference, but it will be small. At home, LED’s just make much more sense… There’s less to go wrong, less power draw, less heat, etc.

I’ve got some cleaning up in my garden. When my second Fluence shows and is running. I’ll send some pics of the crop. No bud porn right now though

315w CMHs, I don’t know the specifics of the grow, not my department, obviously.

My only evidence is that our in-house stuff puts out three to four times the terpene yield of anything else we get, regardless of freshness. Crude is my initial extraction, which is on average 18% of the biomass weight (for trim) or 22% bud or full plant. That particular batch that was 26% of the crude was our Chem 91, which was always a high yield crude and terpene strain. Up to 28% crude on a bud extraction.

Almost everything we get as trim trades or that we buy, we get ~5-9% terpene yield. There have been some exceptions, the very occasional 12-15% from one particular company we prefer to buy trim from. We consistently get >15% on literally all of our in-house strains, that tells me it’s the lights.
