Hey there, I’ve been wanting to start a small indoor grow for some time. I have several questions before I begin, including how bad smell will be for a small grow of like 4 plants. Was hoping I could setup an area in my apartment, but I’m not sure how much 4 plants would smell. I plan on using a small grow tent. I would love recommendations on great lighting for a small grow, and nutrients as well. Anything would help as I am very new to this and have no experience in growing. I have done a ton of research but I know once these plants get growing I will run into unexpected challenges. I was planning on ordering a few feminized seeds online for this. Again, any helpful tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

Personally, I wouldn’t grow In an apartment…
Just me though.
Look for a small house with an unfinished basement, or garage…

More headache than it’s worth in my opinion but if you’re gung ho about it and it’s a bucket list you can get carbon filters and it shouldn’t smell at all

Agreed. A 4 plant apartment harvest (unless you are growing a plant per 1k watt light To get some monsters) wouldn’t be very fulfilling (At least for me) Unless it’s allowed in your unit, you are risking more than the reward…

Okay, this helps a lot. I thought this was a more common or doable situation but I don’t want to risk anything. I guess I’m going to be stacking and saving for a little bit until I can get some grow space. Thanks Guys!

Lol, all I can do is a small op now. You’d laugh at it. It’s not even 700w total.
But when I have things dialed in, I can pull about a lb a month. Ain’t a ton, but it’s more than enough for my personal.

Does your apt do frequent inspections? Get a large carbon filter and I think you may be ok. you also need an airtite space like a tent to make sure all the air goes through the filter. There are also some strains that arent as loud as the og kush etc…

1-2 wall fans
Dehumidifier
Ducting
duct tape
timer ( if you want but not needed with autos)
Growing in a tent is a fucking pain in the ass but it can be fun if it’s your first time. Autos are super easy because you can just leave them on 24/7 Humidity is normally a bitch to control with photos in a tent. With autos you can have the lights on 24/7 which will negate a lot of the humidity. Pack it full and you will probably see 10-16 ounces in about 9 weeks.

I’m at a combined 340w between veg and flower, a whopping 12 sqft lmao. I’m looking at property right now, mostly just growing for fun but a few ounces every few weeks in the meantime doesn’t hurt.
If OP lives somewhere that landlords can’t enter at will I’d say fuck it and run a 2x4 or something

I had a lot of fun with my cabinet/dresser/armoire conversions in the mid-late aughts. 55W 2G11 fluorescents were the shit for those tiny grows pre-LED

I like leds but they put out tons of heat compared to a air cooled light. Get a cabinet from home depot or something and put a hole in the back for the fan hose.
on that level It makes no sense to risk freedom over a few ounces at best. With a 400 he can grow more than he can smoke so thats worth it vs buying weed.
I like foil faced styrofoam insulation panels. They make it easy to build a room within a room.

4 plants sounds like a legal OR personal grow. given the size of the planet, the chances of that are not high, but ya never know.
not saying a PC case makes sense for everyone. just that there are other ways of looking at the problem.
and this particular solution was quite popular in the UK for a while.
which might encourage selling the stuff…
or going down the rabbit hole of extracts.= now I need crazy equipment to keep up with jonses

I used to buy midgrade weed and it was never good, just better than mexican. A so called drought hit an we were driving to buy from gangbangers and then I got a 2 foot x 20 inch cab from home depot- c 13 and havenst bout those mids since.
tents really make it easy
Assuming there’s no active legal risk, a small grow will at least get you comfortable growing. You can also really focus on dialing in your recipes for soil/nutes/etc. You never get to be a good grower without actually growing.

For that little amount that your gonna grow in a small space, monetary wise it’s cheaper to buy 2oz vs grow 2oz. Time, equipment, and the pucker effect (brown eye clenching super tight) every time maintinence guys come into your apt.
By the way, they only need to give 24hrs notice, or immediately open front door in case of an emergency.
I have 6x 80# carbon scrubbers all on 8" fans running when I chop. It’s very faint smell outside my building. This is with 6x 80# carbon scrubbers. Imagine what it will smell like in a small apt with neighbors next to you.
Also forgot to mention.
if your caught growing in an apt (it doesnt matter if your in a legal state or have a med card), the apt complex will/can make you pay for any and all damages, as well as kick you out legally.
