There are several “Norit” brand activated carbons that are neutralized. I can’t find the one I originally looked at any more, but they definitely have them.

Ah, yes, Norit is pretty much the shizznit in activated carbons. I just need to find one made with something other than coal, and they are pretty guarded with that stuff, sadly.

There is no ideal acid of which I know for this process, but there are ideal conditions. It has to be a Lewis acid that is not also a Brönstead acid, and conditions must be anhydrous and aprotic.
