Gender Fluidity Question

I would like some thoughts or direct experience with “females” being stessed to the point of death and revived like Jesus on Easter Sunday, genitals included, and then being reverted to veg, and expressing as female in the following flower cycle.

This is basically a non-planned study on hermaphrodism spawned by a clone which got “too big to die” last fall (Portland, OR). After it survived well past flowering (was trying to force a flip) well into December (moved out of the ground onto a deck in a pot). Cloned from there and kept inside at 18/6. I will call this Mother.

About Feb, I took 8 clones off Mother, and chucked a couple in the ground (March), just to see WTF. All four withered, but one lived through, and immediately went into flower. By now we are talking early April.

Right about this time, I left town for a few days, forgetting to leave watering instruction with my wife. 18/6 in a tent with no water for 2 days (small pot) was not a pleasant experience for Mother. She got so pissed off that she started flowering like mad (male), to wit I said “the fuck outside you go, to think about what you have done”, so I moved here out of the tent, into dirt, to figure I would ride the pollen train. Wanted to try freezing it…

About this time, I realized that I had both genders from the same predominantly female mother…so WTF, I cut off all the stems with male flower from mother and chucked 'em in a tupperware to ripen a bit. And, since it was still April ( a very dry one), I figured it was worth the risk, so I assisted Mother in a little self pollination of her daughter.

So now I have daughter hopefully making a few seeds from whatever Korean Horror-porn situation I have. All with Mother watching from the deck. Yes, “she” is still there, and after the severe stress of the castration, and given that we are just flipping the light cycle here in the PNW, we appear to be back in Veg mode once again.

I know you are going to wonder. What strain was so compelling to invest all this effort and thought into? Of course, I have no idea. For those of you who have the time on your hands to read this, and if you happen to know of some cross off of Sirius Black, it might be that.

So here is the question at the end of the day. After full veg, then what? Does the flip of male expression stay “permanent”, or do we go back to the dominant female? I have no idea, and am curious as heck to know. If this doesn’t revert to predominantly female, then would CTC? Or does anyone know what is happening on the cellular/genetic level? I would love some primer here…

I wish I had thought to graft both male and female expressions onto Mother…

I have heard of folks closer to the equator getting two harvests off one plant, but never flipping back on forth. Wondering if this is just because folks kill off the males (mostly) as if they were lions in the Serengeti trying to maintain their harem.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling. I just continue to find this plant so fascinating on so many levels.

Would love to know if someone has been down this road…

Would also love to know what strain this is…

Hey. Great name, btw. Next time I run across a strain called clownfish, I will think of you.

I’m still working with my my on boosting the limonene/lanalool content high enough to earn the name Blowfish…

Also got me thinking of a strain called The Naked Mole Rat. But that sounds like It should have been a John Belushi skit.

In all serious - any real knowledge on this would be very welcome. I am really curious at what level in the plan gene expression would occur, and whether once expressed always stay expressed? Or whether after a certain time in veg it reverts. Anyway, the study is ongoing.

took me two days to stop chuckling over this one, Hannibal…

But not happy ending the saga here, much like the Dosney Mouse riding the baby Yoda train until the end, I have a thought or two, and would like to possibly solicit an accomplice.

First, Since Mother appears to be happily in full veg mode right now, I am windering when the best time to graft would be…given that I an in Portland, OR, and will be running this thing fully outside. Since Daughter is happily flowering right now with buns in the oven, it is absolutely the worst time to grab a clone…so I thought I would do it. This Beast has taken more than this. Kind of like that Toyota Truck on Top Gear. Except, rather thsn cross the English Channel, Mother is once and for all going to answer “Is it really Shit Herm Genetics”? Or is it God’s way of telling us the Story of the Virgin Birth in a language we understand. Or is this gene leakage that causes this, much like the THC leakage which is plaguing all but CBG growers in the hemp space (to my current knowledge).

Clearly, at some point in time, somebody made the call that this was a female. Enough to make it available fairly broadly for a while in the Portland area as flower, and then as clones. (Don’t think I am not trying to track this heritage down…). And, to be fair, this thing was so close to seeing the other side of biochar that I was amazed that it came back at all.

So experiment 1 is to clone the currently flowering/seeding daughter, and bring her back into veg for grafting onto…yes…Mother… If anything lives from this freak “Back Cross”, i should have a female mother branch, which never went through whatever triggered the male expression in mother. I then I should have Mother. I wish right now I had cloned Brother, but that turtured thinking is what leads one down the path to madness. Ok, so if this freak of nature plays out in anything resembling a Blessed Union, then sure as F@$K it is not being released into the wilds of suburbia, so back into the tent She/it will go…where this whole drama started… Gotta remember watering instruction next time…

OK…so…if I get seeds…Experiment 2 would be a mass germination followed by gender testing. If I can ever find the original strain, and IF they tested, then maybe that should tell us something…

If anyone has the internal resources and curiosity to look at this in a slightly more scientific manner (and wants to help out supporting the testing side, or other…)

So why care? I feel like somewhere down this road is an understanding of how to grab useful genetics back from many, many strains which only exist in female form. I feel terrible every time i chop down a healthy male grown from my “organic non-feminized carbon-neutral” seeds, because I fear the day when the corporate economics drive the lack of variety for those of us who still like flower.

Shit, I can buy really decent weed here, at market, for $50/oz. Not vertically integrated. so the grower is making what per lb? $400? How long are the small guys going to be able to survive? Then we are left with seed banks…And I see them going more towards feminized and autoflower. Heck, now I am just sounding paranoid.

So far, Mother hasn’t started talking to me yet…I think those voices are in my head…Anyway, this is cheaper than therapy…

No. I am not done here. Not at all.

Right now, but bastard offspring and patent sit side-by-side in 6” pots on a stump, thinking about the Korean Horror-Porn director that brought the love story to this point in time.

After watching daughter begin to show in February, then March, and then by April She decided to go into a second round of flower, new limbs sprouting off stalk, probably stashing some sperm in a sack somewhere like a boa constrictor in a zoo I got scared, and tried to put her down. Cut off everything green, dig up the stalk, into a pot she went.

Right next to whatever genetic misfit creature Mom had now become. Her haircut was lore severe. Basically the same treatment red shirts get early on in a Star Trek episode. A rusty pair of pruning shears right across the stalk. About 6” up. I had planned on saving this, since I am currently long of the hemp hurd market. I got rid of my bitcoin early. Can’t fool me twice!

Anyway, I have heard from Hawaii about double cropping off the same root ball, but never seen it. Until now. God Bless Mike Pence for global warming. Like tears forming in the visage of a plastic Virgin Mary statue, so too, life finds a way. Both stumps are now once again growing in apparently a vegetative state (hopefully with no long-term memory).

Proving once again, idle hands…

I figure I have about 2 weeks before the reunification surgery occurs. I want to get that in before solstice. Days aren’t getting much longer, and fuck if I am letting that monstrosity back in my house. However, I do have the backup plan of cutting mother’s second head off and letting daughter now take possession of the root ball.

Oh. Seeds were begotten out of this unholy union. I would be really curious to see what the standard gender tests shows. If anyone out there has testing ability and curiosity…

So Norman could’ve just said fuck it. Wow.

Fuck you Disney you ruined something that could’ve been even funnier

If you stress the plant into herm the succesive cuta most probably will be herma aswell…

But it aint neceseraly true for your seed offspring that is self polinated or polination of a fem.

I can also say that on numerous occasions I saw only a lil male polen sack on a totaly flowering female plant…

If I got out what your trying to ask?
