I would like some thoughts or direct experience with “females” being stessed to the point of death and revived like Jesus on Easter Sunday, genitals included, and then being reverted to veg, and expressing as female in the following flower cycle.
This is basically a non-planned study on hermaphrodism spawned by a clone which got “too big to die” last fall (Portland, OR). After it survived well past flowering (was trying to force a flip) well into December (moved out of the ground onto a deck in a pot). Cloned from there and kept inside at 18/6. I will call this Mother.
About Feb, I took 8 clones off Mother, and chucked a couple in the ground (March), just to see WTF. All four withered, but one lived through, and immediately went into flower. By now we are talking early April.
Right about this time, I left town for a few days, forgetting to leave watering instruction with my wife. 18/6 in a tent with no water for 2 days (small pot) was not a pleasant experience for Mother. She got so pissed off that she started flowering like mad (male), to wit I said “the fuck outside you go, to think about what you have done”, so I moved here out of the tent, into dirt, to figure I would ride the pollen train. Wanted to try freezing it…
About this time, I realized that I had both genders from the same predominantly female mother…so WTF, I cut off all the stems with male flower from mother and chucked 'em in a tupperware to ripen a bit. And, since it was still April ( a very dry one), I figured it was worth the risk, so I assisted Mother in a little self pollination of her daughter.
So now I have daughter hopefully making a few seeds from whatever Korean Horror-porn situation I have. All with Mother watching from the deck. Yes, “she” is still there, and after the severe stress of the castration, and given that we are just flipping the light cycle here in the PNW, we appear to be back in Veg mode once again.
I know you are going to wonder. What strain was so compelling to invest all this effort and thought into? Of course, I have no idea. For those of you who have the time on your hands to read this, and if you happen to know of some cross off of Sirius Black, it might be that.
So here is the question at the end of the day. After full veg, then what? Does the flip of male expression stay “permanent”, or do we go back to the dominant female? I have no idea, and am curious as heck to know. If this doesn’t revert to predominantly female, then would CTC? Or does anyone know what is happening on the cellular/genetic level? I would love some primer here…
I wish I had thought to graft both male and female expressions onto Mother…
I have heard of folks closer to the equator getting two harvests off one plant, but never flipping back on forth. Wondering if this is just because folks kill off the males (mostly) as if they were lions in the Serengeti trying to maintain their harem.
Anyway, sorry for the rambling. I just continue to find this plant so fascinating on so many levels.
Would love to know if someone has been down this road…
Would also love to know what strain this is…
