Does marijuana use lead to an increased risk of heart attack?

There are a ton of limitations in this study. CNN fear-mongering, what’s new?

“In the future, Ladha said he wants to study cannabis users in real-time instead of looking at survey results retroactively.”

They are probably including people who went to the emergency room with an anxiety attack as having a heart attack.

If smoking weed caused any real health problems, short term or long term, then we would see it in populations that smoke a lot. According to the us government, most of the people of jamaica should be schizophrenics with man boobs dropping like flies from heart attacks. But that is not the case.

How many of these people in their study have a history of past amphetamine or heart-damaging drug use?

Pretty fucking sure Kevin Smith survived his massive ‘widowmaker’ heart attack because he was stoned as fuck according to his doctor (as quoted by him).

They even provided the weed and ‘keef’ to sprinkle on top! It was weird though the keef was white and smelled like burning plastic.

SCIENCE!!

Fear porn or science?

While the facts may be flawed and skewed I believe there is health risks involved for some people.

I have a bad reaction when my blood pressure is high(high sodium intake) and consume cannabis but it’s an underlying health problem not specifically cannabis.

Doing better since I got into the root cause.

Totally agree. In HS I was ‘challenged’ by a dude that was 300 or so lbs to a smoking contest - guy went into a crippling panic attack, it’s very easy to see how a heart attack could have happened in that situation but in 20somthing years of smoking it’s the only ‘fuck this guy might drop dead’ situation i’ve ever been in regarding bud

Literally though…

There definitely needs to be more studies on how Cannabis affects heart rate. I think we can all agree that THC has an almost homeostatic effect when it comes to body temperature regulation, breathing rate and other factors. When I freedive, THC helps me immensely in this regard.

Remember that Thai cave rescue a couple years ago? All the soccer team kids were given Ketamine to regulate their body temperature and keep them calm during their extraction. This is super fascinating to me in terms of pharmacology… What if THC could provide a similar, homeostatic effect in these situations? Super interesting and hoping we can see more research going forward.
