Any poker players in NorCal

Most games are mob run. No one in their right mind would recommend a stranger. A true card player would know this. I’m still smelling rotten fish.

I don’t even know where to begin. I’m done here. It was a bad idea starting a thread about poker in northern California. I will go back to just reading threads and not contributing anything. It was off general topic anyway.

I saw a guy sing a ‘country song’ (when you lose a house and a boat, and wife puts you in the dog house) at a low key card house. I wasn’t involved, I just saw him after he got square. He looked so sad.

I also just saw your face and everything…is that cool @sidco?

Lol what? So we can’t show our faces in your world?

I appreciate everyone’s caution and skepticism and I think most of the time it’s warranted, but I think everyone is getting a little carried away here. Poker can be recreational and enjoyable as a social activity. OP never asked people to show up at his game with 5k, he was just curious about any other games or places to play in the area.
The idea that poker games are all mob run is fantastical and something only non-poker players watching movies would say. There are legal gambling establishments all over the country and everyone who wants to play knows where they are. Maybe in the 1970’s sure, but Indian casinos and regional gambling has made the mob run games obsolete. They can’t compete.

That’s been happening when I get online lately as well. About half of the time it says my connection to the site isn’t secure.

Live the life and you will come to realize they get a cut of everything but home games. I played 5-6 days a week 10-12hrs a day for several yrs. You ever wonder how these spots get calls just before the cops raid? You ever wonder why some high stakes games never get robbed? IDK how things go down in the woods but here it’s serious business. I’m telling you from personal experience.

Not trying to throw shade on ya. Just have to be careful of everything nowadays especially with all the BS happening in california. I think you handled the situation properly. Nowadays everyone has to be wary of new users. You handled it the best way possible though with the video.

I’m not trying to ragg on the guy at all besides for the absurd request… It’s just that what does this video prove? He is a pothead and prob in legal or decrim state? He could have just been busted and now trying to get a plea by ratting on a spot.

Just trying to say… BE SAFE!

Exactly lol. Don’t wanna rag on the guy by any means but on the other hand want everyone to know the dangers involved. Could be nothing, could be something. By all means do due diligence on each situation.

Maybe in the 70’s or even 80’s that was a reality. Nowadays there are casinos everywhere. It doesn’t exist on any level anymore and anyone still doing it is wasting their time. Poker isn’t even a large money maker for the casino, so you see how this would all be a huge waste of time for illegal venues.

You definitely have no idea what your talking about my friend. Foxwoods is 3hrs from me and same w/ AC. Still there are over 2 dozen underground locations that are packed every night. These spots pull in more than a big time grower. At this very moment I have 2 spots within 20mins of me that are having a tourney tonight. $120 buy in w/ I’m hoping at least 40 guys and add-ons til 3rd blind raise. Cash games all night afterwards, a full table brings in $600hr… There’s no money in poker?.. Just because you stopped playing cards in the 80’s doesn’t mean it’s still not big. Actually Texas Hold’em has had it’s biggest following in history starting in the mid 2000’s. I know several who have played and placed in the WSOP.

Well I’m not going to comment on the east coast but here there are no mob run games. Honestly I think the mob and the culture with it never really extended to the west coast beyond Vegas. Everyone on the east coast seems to know a guy, and the west coast is just never heard of.
It is possible to earn a very nice living playing poker, but that takes a lot of dedication, skill, and the right mindset that few will have. It is a struggle but the house always wins, yet the house makes more money off slots. So your income is capped because your playing a zero sum game and in the scheme of things you can be the biggest shark at the table and still just a little fish in life and business. Mind you that if you are the best player in the world you will still lose to AI. Only a matter of time before this gets exploited fully and everyone stops playing.
Limit was solved a while ago. Now the casinos use those and you can choose to play the machine and guaranteed lose at a set rate just like slots.
Poker is a good game to learn, but not the best to play as a career
