Pretty sure that’s what everyone is using yes.

Bengal rose route involves a photoreactor. You think that’s practical at scale? @Etohthekid

I have seen pretty large scale UV reactors. I think was about a 400L closed system.. also I do remember KOK posting pics of oxone pallets back in 2019 or around that time. I’m guessing that’s the most common route but there’s usually a few ways to promote oxidation.
Right now I’m more curious how this synth THCa is being produced.

Hey you still around boss? I’m interested in wholesale if your still in business.

Sent you a pm

That’s pretty cool you developed a method that can break the 50% molecular yield that’s common with most of the known oxidation techniques. I will DM you some ideas for product cleanup that might improve the purity. I only came across one other method in a deep search of the literature that reported high yields, but I never tried it because the reagent involved seemed too expensive and too risky to handle in scale up.

Good work!

I know what you’re talking about and unfortunately the yields from the reaction in that thesis were totally overexaggerated . Either the 97% yield was fabricated or their testing method was flawed and didn’t detect the byproducts that were also created during the reaction. They only determined their yields by firing samples into analytical instruments, never by actually recovering the mass of 7OH from a reaction.

Over a year ago I paid a woman to fly from Indonesia to Malaysia to meet the author and get the full paper since the research library holding it wouldn’t share it with anyone that wasn’t a student at that university. I figured there must be something in the full document that would fix my terrible yields. What I learned after receiving the full thesis was that the reaction has to be ridiculously dilute (terrible for scale up) in order to perform optimally and even then the yields were no better than other methods.

The challenge with oxidizing mitragynine is that there are many other locations on the molecule that are prone to react with oxidizing conditions besides the 7-position. Finding something that is actually selective is challenging. It took me a long time with a lot of disappointing results before I finally figured something out.

Woah, that’s wild you got the copy of that thesis. I was thinking of just trying to track down the author and email her to request a copy.

Clays are great…

Jokes aside, though: I remember listening to discussions you had about the azulene paper back when you were showing that work on Instagram. Very impressive stuff! I’m actually pretty certain that many of my favorite batches of 7oh came from your lab through to online retailers!

It’s wonderful to see you still continuing to do interesting and incredible things! Your azulene experience was fairly formative in making sure I was paying attention to a lot more and taking more notes in natural product chemistry work I went on to do since then. Thanks for sharing as much knowledge as you have over the years!

Edit: as a note, was N-protection with an EWG that can restore the amine double bound when it leaves just terrible? I always hated the idea of the hypervalent iodide route because singlets fuck up all sorts of things.

Edit2: exhaustion may have meant the above edit isn’t actually saying what I was trying to ask
